Around 2010–2011, while working on the XYZ project, I primarily used Scriptographer for my generative design work.
Scriptographer was an open-source plugin for Adobe Illustrator, developed between 2001 and 2012 by Jürg Lehni and Jonathan Puckey. It allowed users to create interactive tools, graphic effects, and generative scripts using JavaScript, thereby extending the capabilities of Adobe Illustrator. Designed to encourage visual experimentation and introduce designers to programming, Scriptographer was no longer maintained after Illustrator CS5. Its approach lives on today through Paper.js, a JavaScript library for the web that continues its principles for vector drawing on the HTML5 canvas.
