Print-Oriented Generative Graphic Design

At the time, generative design struck me — and future research may determine whether this was more than just an impression — as being heavily oriented toward what was then known as multimedia. In other words, it was primarily conceived for digital formats, meant to be experienced on screens.

My approach was quite different. I was drawn to the printed object — that was the central focus of my work during the XYZ project. It was within this tradition of print design that I wanted to integrate programming. Animation and interactivity held little appeal for me then, and they still don’t today.

That’s precisely why Scriptographer felt like the perfect tool. It let me bring programming directly into Adobe Illustrator, a software with deep roots in print graphic design. This seamless link between code and print mirrored my own intentions perfectly.
