Concrete Poetry

Concrete poetry is a form of poetry in which the visual arrangement of words on the page plays a central role, on equal footing with meaning or sound. It emphasizes typographic layout, graphic shapes, and sometimes the use of symbols to create a visual poetic experience. Emerging in the 20th century, this type of poetry breaks with traditional linear conventions by focusing on language as a visual material. Thus, the poem becomes an object to be read and seen, with its spatial structure fully contributing to its meaning.
