Chasing the First Thrill

For a reason that still escapes me, my passion for graphic design is no longer quite the same as it was at the beginning, or at least at the start of my studies. Is it the effect of the professional world, of my experiences, or perhaps those of my friends and colleagues, that tends to dull the initial enthusiasm? And yet, I haven't had any bad experiences in this field; quite the opposite: I probably consider myself lucky. However, it must be acknowledged that the professional practice of design sometimes replaces passion with pragmatism.

That said, the exact cause matters little. However, what matters to me is to rediscover and share what truly drives me. I used to feel that particular thrill when leafing through a book by Karl Gerstner, Wolfgang Weingart, or other graphic design icons — which, I know, has never really left me. In fact, I felt it again recently, while presenting their work at a conference: the passion and emotion were definitely there.

So I tell myself that, even if it may seem like an unexpectedly simple solution — almost naïve in its obviousness — collecting, selecting, and sharing these images might just be a way to rekindle the flame.
